What are the signs of penis problems?
Penis symptoms are any types of symptoms that affect the penis, including discharge, inflammation, redness or swelling. Mechanical problems, such as bending or sustained erection, are other types of penis symptom.
Sexual Problems Spotlight
Penis symptoms such as inflammation or redness can be accompanied by blisters, bloody or pink-colored urine (hematuria), itching, peeling, scabbing, pain or tenderness, and scar tissue. These symptoms can be extremely uncomfortable and create difficulty with urination, sexual relations, and daily activities. In addition to symptoms in and around your penis, you may experience generalized symptoms, such as flu-like symptoms (fatigue, fever, sore throat, headache, cough, aches and pains), with certain penis symptoms.
Sexually transmitted diseases are one cause of penis symptoms. These include genital warts, herpes, syphilis (sexually transmitted disease caused by bacteria), scabies, pubic lice, and chlamydia. Penis symptoms can also be attributed to a urinary tract infection. Balanitis, an inflammation of the foreskin around the penis caused by poor hygiene, irritants from soaps or detergents, or infection is another cause of penis symptoms.
Serious or life-threatening causes of penis symptoms include penile fracture due to trauma, priapism (painful and sustained erection), and Fournier’s gangrene (severe and spreading groin infection).
Seek immediate medical care (call 911) if you experience a prolonged, painful erection, a sudden onset of severe testicular pain, redness and tenderness spreading throughout the groin, or sudden deformity of the penis accompanied by severe pain.
