Leg bruising may accompany other symptoms that vary depending on the underlying disease, disorder or condition. Medical conditions and medications that interfere with the blood's ability to clot weaken blood vessels and can contribute to leg bruising.

Traumatic symptoms that may occur along with leg bruise

Leg bruise may accompany other symptoms of trauma including:

  • Abrasions (scrapes)
  • Bleeding
  • Bone deformity
  • Changes in range of motion
  • Changes in skin color
  • Difficulty moving
  • Lacerations (cuts)
  • Pain
  • Sensory changes
  • Swelling

Other symptoms that may occur along with leg bruise

Leg bruise may accompany symptoms related to other body systems including:

  • Blood failing to clot
  • Easy bleeding and bruising, including excessive menstrual bleeding
  • Fatigue
  • Frequent infections
  • Joint problems
  • Mood changes
  • Poor wound healing
  • Rash
  • Skin changes such as thinning
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Unintended weight changes
  • Varicose veins

Serious symptoms that might indicate a life-threatening condition

In some cases, a leg bruise may be a symptom of a life-threatening condition that should be immediately evaluated in an emergency setting. Seek immediate medical care (call 911) if you, or someone you are with, have any of these life-threatening symptoms including:

  • Bluish coloration of the lips or fingernails
  • Change in level of consciousness or alertness, such as passing out or unresponsiveness
  • Chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure, palpitations
  • Excessive bleeding
  • High fever (higher than 101 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Paralysis or inability to move a body part
  • Rapid swelling
  • Respiratory or breathing problems, such as shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, labored breathing, wheezing, not breathing
  • Severe pain
  • Significant trauma, such as bone deformity or hemorrhage
